  • Trauma Doctors - Episode 1

In this first episode, the team get straight to work. If they are to save lives, every second is vital for the trauma doctors in their search for clues. For a motor cyclist whose foot is mangled in a car accident, the team have to check every part of his body and the wreckage for clues to other injuries so that they can make the correct diagnosis. London's Air Ambulance doctors race to stabilize a 19-year-old woman after she is hit by a van, and the team's investigation reveals a potential spine injury with grave consequences. Weak, nauseous and pale, an elderly woman's confusion makes the hunt for clues to her illness difficult. After a series of tests, the team finally make an unexpected diagnosis. After a 45-year-old cyclist with a head injury is rushed in by helicopter, the patient's...

  • UK Department of Health scientist doubtful HGRV's in CFS are 'real'.

September 2010....But XMRV is real in Prostate Cancer, huh?. Does XMRV carry a passport to check for alleged 'faulty illness beliefs', before infecting people only *without CFS* but can infect healthy controls? I guess so. On that logic, HIV can only infect 'the gays' according to the Pope. Why is 'contamination' of XMRV only found in CFS people at 80-90% and not in healthy controls *at the same level*? If the healthy controls are infected at only 4-7%, are these contaminants also? No mention of that! If so, then explain the difference in % rates of a disease of alleged 'faulty illness beliefs' (CFS) affecting people 12x more than healthy people. This is never considered or mentioned. I wonder why?! How can XMRV in CFS be contamination if: 1) Virus is grown in culture. 2) ...

  • Translational Medicine Foresighting dinner - Peter Knight, UK Department of Health

Translational Medicine is often referred to as a one-way translation of ideas from 'bench to bedside'. Translational Medicine is far more than this. It is a two-way process of collaborative and iterative biomedical discovery and development focused on patients. At PA Consulting Group's and 4D's annual translational medicine foresighting event, we discussed how a number of government, clinical academic and private sector organisations are addressing these challenges allowing them to realise the value of adopting a translational medicine approach to the way we discover, develop and deliver healthcare. I wonder.... Perhaps we should give 'graded exercise' and 'cognitive behavioural therapy' to HIV patients as well, and take away their drugs and funding for research as well? By employing people as HIV 'experts' who state HIV doesn't exist. That would be a sensible way to manage a pandemic wouldn't it? Perhaps not.
